FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a new asphalt driveway installation take?

A typical residential driveway installation takes 1-2 days. Day one involves removal of old surface and base preparation. Day two includes asphalt laying and compaction. Larger projects may require additional time. Your driveway will be ready for light vehicle traffic after 24 hours and fully cured within 30 days.

What's the difference between sealcoating and repaving?

Sealcoating is a protective layer applied to existing asphalt to prevent water damage and extend lifespan, typically needed every 2-3 years. Repaving involves removing and replacing the asphalt surface, necessary when the pavement shows significant damage or has reached the end of its 15-20 year lifespan.

When is the best time to sealcoat my driveway?

The ideal time for sealcoating is during warm, dry weather with temperatures above 50°F. Spring and summer months are optimal, allowing proper curing. We recommend waiting 6-12 months after new asphalt installation before first sealcoating.

How do I maintain my new asphalt driveway?

Regular maintenance includes annual cleaning, prompt repair of cracks, sealcoating every 2-3 years, and avoiding harsh chemicals. Park in varied spots to distribute weight evenly, and avoid sharp turns while parking. Remove oil stains promptly and ensure proper drainage.

What's the difference between asphalt and tar & chip driveways?

Asphalt provides a smooth, uniform surface ideal for most residential properties. Tar & chip offers a more rustic appearance with better traction, typically costing less but requiring more maintenance. Asphalt generally lasts 20-30 years, while tar & chip can last 7-10 years with proper care.

Do you work during winter months?

We operate year-round but limit paving to days when ground temperature exceeds 40°F and surface is dry. Winter projects may take longer due to weather conditions. Emergency repairs are available in all seasons.
